A college student burns the midnight oil and eats a solid snack food diet during finals week. Blood taken from him during that week shows that his immune system is depleted. The same blood test taken a week later while he rests at home, shows that his immune system is back to normal.

A man has enjoyed many years of good health. Yet, when an unexpected layoff makes his job seem tenuous he develops illness after illness.

A group of people participating in a research project are told that the pill that are taking will lower their levels of LDL cholesterol. The pill itself is an inert placebo. Actually, it’s nothing more than a sugar pill encased in a gelatin capsule. The blood taken from those people shows that many of them experienced a real drop in their cholesterol.

A young boy must receive chemotherapy for cancer. His father tells the boy that his hair will fall out unless a hair growing salve is applied everyday to the boys scalp. The salve is in fact a simple hand cream repackaged so that that bottle says “Hair Growing Salve”. Everyday the boy’s father rubs the lotion into the boy’s scalp. The boy’s hair does NOT fall out.

All of these example convincingly make the case for one inescapable conclusion:

Mind And Body Are Connected.

Indeed, the more and more scientists study everything from acne to cancer, the more they respect the contribution of one’s mental state to the process of healing. In practice this means that use of meditation, guided imagery, self hypnosis, cognitive therapy, and mindfulness based psychotherapy are all part of healing. Such interventions are no longer just used by the “quacks”; mind body medicine is now mainstream.

Dr. Mark is thrilled to offer those going through the big and small illnesses the latest (and timeless) techniques for making the most of getting better. As a guide, as a teacher, and as a caring therapist, Dr. Mark has helped many, many people get their minds in the game for healing.
